Affirmative Action HR

POLICY OVERVIEW

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H), as an Affirmative Action Employer and in accordance with state and federal lawsa and regulations, will maintain a positive program of affirmative action with regard to race and sex to ensure equality of employment in all personnel activities. Affirmative action will be implemented in recruitment advertising, recruitment, hiring, training, and promotions in all job classifications in which women or minorities are underutilized.

The president, assisted by the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) or designee, is responsible for implementing and complying with this policy and shall take action as necessary to accomplish equality of employment. The president has delegated the responsibility for implementing this policy to hiring managers.

PROCEDURE

I. Recruitment

All advertising copy generated by the UTHSC-H for recruitment purposes will include the following information:

Upon occasion, there is a compelling case where another statement would be more applicable. For example, "Women and Minorities Are Encouraged to Apply" or "Men and Minorities Are Encouraged to Apply" may be appropriate in some situations. The recruiting department will work with the EEO Representative to assure the appropriate proactive language. Human Resources-EEO must approve all recruitment advertising copy before placement.

II. Grievances

An employee or non-employee wishing to bring a grievance alleging that actions resulted from unlawful discriminatory practices should be addressed with the EEO Representative for advice and counsel. Complaints regarding sexual harassment or grievances regarding reasonable accommodation for disabilities should be addressed under the appropriate procedures in 2.04 Discrimination and Harassment or 2.50A Grievances--Disability. aExec.
