Employees of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHSC-H) receive performance reviews on a regular basis, at least once each year. T his annual review will be used for "the improvement of performance, promotion consideration, and merit salary review,"a will further provide an opportunity for employees to work with their supervisors to receive guidance regarding performance planning, coaching, reviewing, and rewarding (where appropriate). The head of each operating unit has the authority to determine what type of instrument is used to perform employee reviews (refer to Procedure section for more information), but all reviews should follow an effective process that includes the four areas of planning, coaching, reviewing, and rewarding. (Refer to policy 2.33 Performance Planning and Feedback for more information on the four areas.)
The head of each operating unit will determine the schedule for that operating unit's annual reviews. For more information on performance planning, coaching, reviewing, and rewarding, refer to the Human Resources Website, which provides information on training classes for all four areas of the review process.
The head of each operating unit will also determine the evaluation tool(s) to be used within that unit, or s/he may allow supervisors to select the tool. For more information on the evaluation tools available, refer to the Human Resources Website, which offers examples of performance appraisal forms and other resources, such as the course "Performance Planning and Feedback." Departments may also create their own evaluation tools, or may modify an existing form and tailor it to their departments' specific needs.
Evaluation results will be maintained in departmental files.
